[MIB Designer] Notification priority

Joel,

The SNMP standard does not define a standard severity
attribute for notifications/traps. So, in most cases
a severity for a notification/trap is configured within
the management application on behalf of the trap ID.

See, for example, MIB Explorer's trap receiver
configuration.

This approach has its advantages, since each monitoring
application can define its severity according to its
own requirements.

In rare cases, a NOTIFICATION-TYPE definition contains
an "accessible-for-notify" variable denoting the traps
severity. This severity has to be defined in the context
of a MIB module and agent implementation. Nevertheless,
generic tools like a MIB browser have to be customized
to recognize such a severity variable binding.

Does this answer your question?

Best regards,
Frank Fock
