[SNMP4J] community String public or Elephant

Hello
When  retrieving something from a MIB I set the community string as
"public" i.e "setCommunity("*public*");"
And  "*private*" for write anything. Suppose on the other hand in the device
the community string is " *Elephant  RO*" .

My question is can I read the MIB object  from the device ?
If yes : Please give the reason
and if No the why ?

Could you please clear my doubt.
