Hi Frank,

I guess "clumsy", "misleading" and "not very clean" are polite ways
to say "flawed", or as you put it "not conform". I wonder why the
IETF doesn't correct these MIBs instead of having software
developers put work-arounds into their code.

I totally support your approach of a strict SMIv2 implementation
in JASMI (Frank's MIB compiler java library) in order to make
sure that new MIBs are correctly designed.

But I guess that is all rather philosophical  in nature an the facts
of common practice are what we have to deal with.
