About MIB and Agent

Hi All,

I am currently started working on SNMP protocol. I
have to develop a MIB and agent for one of the
service/software running on Linux box.

So my query is that is it possible to make an agent
for any software which can be monitered by manager.
And what's the best way to make a MIB....can anyone
recommend me any books or website on MIB and agent
development. Please let me know.
