Hi friends, nice to write this first message to the
list.

First of all, my name is Rodolfo José Castellanos
Jaimes, I'm from Venezuela, I'm studying at the
university "Universidad Nacional Experimental del
Táchira" (UNET- http://www.unet.edu.ve) and actually
I'm doing my thesis to get my Computing Engineering
title. I'm doing my thesis with my partner Alfredo
Enmanuel Rico Moros.

I joined this mailing list the last December 20th and
my partner Alfredo joined yesterday (December 22th)

The thesis project is untitled "Network Management
System with integration of SNMP and RMON to monitor,
manage and analyse the traffic in the UNET network"
and it comprises the following objectives:

	Specific Objectives
	-------------------
* Design the NMS application using the UML notation
* Construct the application based on the prior UML
design
* Design a data base to storage the information of the
manageable devices of the network, that integrates the
SNMP MIBs and the RMON MIBs
* Study methods to analyse the traffic on the UNET
network and choose one of them to integrate it in the
NMS application
* Study mechanisms to get statistical data and
information of the types of traffic on the UNET
network
* Set up security mechanism to access the NMS
application
* Do the tests of the NMS app to be developed

Our NMS software will be built using the Java
programming language and ,actually, we have just
finished the theorist part of the thesis.

We plan to work hard to deliver our project by obout
February 15th, 2005. We knew about the SNMP4J project
the last October 2004 and I contacted Mr. Frank Fock
to ask his opinion about my project and the
convenience to use the snmp4j Java package. The answer
was positive.

Well, we hope you can help us (according to your
possibilities, of course) to develop our project using
this snmp4j package. By the time this project is
finishing we plan to offer it to the community who is
interested in work in this area.

That's all. Thank you very much by your attention and
thanks in advance by any help you can give us in the
future. Any comment, criticism or suggestion will be
very welcome.

Bye,
Rodolfo José Castellanos Jaimes.
