hi,arden liu!

thanks a lot for ur help.
I am studying if snmp can monitor the network safely and roundly.
but now many systems just install snmpv1 or v2 ,the application of v3 is few. updating all of the user's system is unpractical.
it is our fact, let it be.

now i am learning how to use the snmp4j. then touching another question:
i don't know what the response of the commond means. faint.
e.g. i wanna get the cpu info of my computer(win xp). i input the command:
       SNMP4J -c public -v 2c -Ot localhost 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.5.1.1.1
then the response is:( in the postscript).
where can i search the meanings of these responses ? where is there the docs of response info?

regards

how can i download a file or read a file's content from remote machine just by snmp? it seems hard.
Q: I think it is a very bad choice, who using SNMP to download files.
You could define a File Object in SNMP, which includes a Filename -- DisplayString; File Length -- INTEGER; Index -- INTEGER; CurrentPoint -- INTEGER; Content -- INTEGER;
After you create one instance using Filename, SNMP agent could generate the value of Index and get FileLength from file system.
Then you could set CurrentPoint=1, the SNMP could put first byte of file into Content.
Then you could use get Content to retrive the first byte of your file.
....
Then you could set CurrentPoint=2, the SNMP could put second byte of file into Content.
Then you could use get Content to retrive the second byte of your file.
...
Until the FileLength.

Maybe you could change this define to make it more efficence.
:))

Are you a Chengduer?

V3 is enough to protect your system.

and how can snmp guarantees the security of remote machine system.is snmpv3 enough? but now snmpv1 is familiar.

thank u very much.

Q:can snmp protocol do it by config the snmp agent?
A: SNMP protocol could do anything.

Q once more:

A:What's your meaning of config? I think you should check the mib of your snmp agent, which will tell you what kind of function support in your snmp agent.

my users ask me for controlling the machines of their local area network, only by snmp.

it is the best that the controlling is same power as the administrator of remote machine.

Q:can snmp protocol do it by config the snmp agent?
A: SNMP protocol could do anything.
