However, a generic authentication trap can be generated to a designated management station on such an occurrence. It just doesn't provide any useful information on the particulars of the ignored intrusion attempt.

A silent discarding of the incoming message is required by the protocol in case of a bad community.
See RFC 1157 §4.1(3) and RFC 3584 §5.2.1.
